Geography of Costa Rica

Costa Rica is a small island located in the Caribbean. It is in Central America and is boarded by Nicaragua,Panama,the Pacific ocean and the Caribbean sea.

Due to the hot weather in Costa Rica, loads of tourism takes place there. Costa Rica is known for its heavenly beaches and extraordinary wildlife such as whales and dolphins. Tourists can watch dolphins and whales play at the beach. There is a wide variety of exotic plant and wildlife for nature lovers to enjoy. The rainforest covering the mountains is paradise for eco tourism.

Eco-systems in Costa Rica


Coral Reefs:
 Coastal areas are important for shorebirds (many of them are migratory), and constitute extremely important nesting sites for marine turtles. This is the area where the most extravagant coral reefs are found.
Coral Reefs are built by living organism(the corals) The animals have a skeleton made of calcium carbonate, and are associated with algae which produce the food for the animals.

Highland Ecosystem:
Highland forests are Evergreen. In highland forests, the plant life grows everywhere. They even grow on electricity cables! The forests can be found on mountain slopes with intense rain. Animals that are usually found here are Quetzal and Hummingbirds.This is on one of the crater lakes of Poas Volcano at above 3,000 meters above sea level
